Modelling
As an aside, the lack of crosshead strip pre-dates the N Brass stock of it. Way back in Feb 2011, some unknown called Dr Nick bemoaned the lack of it in the Magazine and built his Ivatt tank crossheads using U shaped brass channel and fairies’ tears…
I’ve dug out some of the photos I took for that article – which can now be revealed for the first time in colour!
If I were building it again today (and I still have the second one to put together) I would do a few things differently.
- Firstly – where is the valve spindle???
- Secondly – I would only use a single layer of etch for the combination lever, and I’d try and file it a bit thinner.
- Thirdly – I would file or turn down the enormous head of the crankpin I used to fasten the connecting rod to the crosshead.
- Fourthly – I would use a smaller motor – probably one of the Association can motors, and try to mount it closer to the worm wheel.
