PS 4427 Covered Hopper

Pullman-Standard emerged as a leader in the covered hopper car market in the 1950s, largely due to the success of their PS-2 series. In 1964, they introduced the PS 4427 covered hopper, boasting a capacity of 4,427 cubic feet. This innovative design addressed the increasing demand from railroads and shippers for greater efficiency, offering a significant improvement over the traditional 40-foot boxcars equipped with Signode grain doors.

Specifically designed for bulk commodities like grain, the PS 4427 played a pivotal role in modernising rail freight. These cars traversed the railways of North America for decades, earning a reputation for their robust utility and longevity. Remarkably, many of these cars remain in active service today, a testament to their enduring design and functionality.
