Maine Central’s only GP9, No. 450, heads an intermodal train through Burnham Junction, Maine, on 26 May 1984. Built for the Algoma Central as No. 171 in August 1963, the locomotive joined the MEC roster in June 1981 and became a regular on this assignment thanks to its larger fuel tanks. Immediately behind the locomotive is Trailer Train flatcar TTWX 972704 carrying a pair of Sea-Land containers, illustrating the growing importance of containerised intermodal traffic in the early 1980s.
