Maine Central RY-2 rounds the curve at Locust Grove Farm in East St. Johnsbury on 3 October 1982, led by GE U18B no. 404 Kenneth Roberts, followed by ALCO RS-11 no. 802, another U18B, and a trailing GP7, all in Harvest Gold. No. 802 is working hard, throwing visible flames from its exhaust as the consist passes beneath the familiar red barn, dated 1911, in a misty autumn scene characteristic of the Mountain Division in its final years of through freight service. © Bruce Macdonald
Maine Central RY-2 rolls east out of St. Johnsbury and is about to cross the Moose River at Locust Grove Farm on 27 February 1983. The head end features three U18Bs, including no. 401 Hannah Weston and no. 407 Unity, along with an additional unit, followed by two GP38s, as the train heads for Crawford Notch. The red barn, dated 1911 and now part of Roots Too Farm, anchors a winter scene reminiscent of Knox Farm on Mike Confalone’s Allagash Railway. © Bruce Macdonald
