Boxcars
A solid train of brand-new Chessie System boxcars heads north past CP WAT on 6 May 1978, with Conrail caboose No. 23017 bringing up the rear. Built by Berwick Forge & Fabricating between March and May 1978 as Baltimore & Ohio Nos. 410000-410306, the 65-ton, 60-foot-9-inch boxcars featured 10-foot doors, 7,327 cubic feet of capacity and were assigned to class B-130A. Bound from the builder to begin service, the striking blue-and-yellow cars would soon become a familiar sight across the Chessie System and beyond. © Scott Brouse
