NAHX 53643 stands at Council Bluffs, Iowa, on 17 December 1987. Built by Pullman-Standard in July 1973, this 4,750 cubic foot covered hopper was used in Cargill bulk commodity service and carries the company’s distinctive yellow livery with large billboard lettering and the early Cargill logo at each end. Cargill-covered hopper NAHX 53649 stands at Valencia, California, on 7 March 1976. Built by North American Car Company in August 1973 from Pullman-Standard kits, the 125-ton covered hopper was part of a 50-car fleet leased to Cargill for grain and bulk commodity service. The car carries Cargill’s yellow billboard livery with large black lettering and the company’s early logo at each end. Newly constructed covered hopper PTLX 14743 is shown in this Pullman-Standard builder’s photograph taken following completion in July-August 1974. The 100-ton, 4,750 cu ft car was one of 31 cars in the PTLX 14741-14771 series leased to Cargill and carried the company’s distinctive yellow billboard livery with large CARGILL lettering and logos at each end. ACF Center Flow covered hopper ACFX 47822 stands at Council Bluffs, Iowa, on 1 June 1986. Built by American Car & Foundry in October 1971, the 4,650 cubic foot car carries the distinctive green Cargill Salt livery that made these hoppers a familiar sight in bulk salt service across North America. PTLX 33016 leads a pair of Cargill Salt-covered Pullman-Standard 4,750 cubic foot covered hoppers past Littleton, New Hampshire, in July 1979. The train is accompanied by a Boston & Maine caboose as it traverses the rural landscape beside a river.
