Central Railroad of New Jersey 40ft 50-ton boxcar CNJ 23522 stands at Danville, Kentucky, in May 1978. Built in October 1957 by Pullman-Standard to the PS-1 design, the car is part of the CNJ 23500–23549 series, featuring 8ft doors and a capacity of 3,898 cubic feet. It still carries the “Jersey Central Lines” Statue of Liberty emblem, now well-worn, showing how CNJ freight cars remained in interchange service into the Conrail era, far from their home territory. © Garland McKee
