Illinois Central covered hopper IC 57112 stands in its striking Split Rail Orange livery shortly after delivery in 1969. Built by Pullman-Standard as part of a 600-car order, the 100-ton, 4,740-cubic-foot covered hoppers were delivered in two batches during late 1969 and early 1970 and numbered 56900-57199 and 765000-765299. Designed primarily for grain service, the cars became a familiar sight across the Midwest and remained in service through the Illinois Central Gulf era, with many surviving into the twenty-first century. © Victor B.
