Reading Company boxcar RDG 19453 stands at Allentown, Pennsylvania, on 30 June 1973. Built by the Reading Shops in December 1939 as one of the railroad’s XAPa class 50-foot 6-inch boxcars (Nos. 19400-19459), the 50-ton cars featured cushioned underframes, 7-foot sliding doors, and a capacity of 4,750 cubic feet. Constructed for dedicated auto parts service, the car carries prominent “AUTO PARTS” lettering while retaining the classic Reading paint scheme. © Andy Benfer Collection
