Boston & Maine GP18 No. 1750 stands at Mechanicville, New York, on 3 October 1963. Built by Electro-Motive Division and delivered in May 1961, No. 1750 was one of six GP18s purchased by the Boston & Maine. The locomotive is seen in the railroad’s striking McGinnis-era blue, black and white livery, carrying the large Boston & Maine herald on its long hood. © Dick Richards

Boston & Maine GP18 No. 1752 leads a westbound freight upgrade on the former Fitchburg Route near Shirley, Massachusetts, during the winter of 1982. Assisted by two GP9s, the train threads its way through a snow-covered landscape beneath clear skies, with a long consist stretching into the distance. The locomotive carries the railroad’s familiar blue livery introduced during the McGinnis era, which remained a distinctive feature of Boston & Maine motive power for many years. © Robert C. Barnett

The locomotive carries the railroad’s distinctive blue livery accented by bold red and white striping, creating a patriotic appearance well suited to America’s Bicentennial year.
