Intervale, New Hampshire, in 1938. By this date the agency had been reduced and the train order blades removed from the signal mast, indicating there was no longer an operator on duty. The Boston & Maine signal to the left governed only inbound moves, as their line ended here. Style B semaphores between North Conway and Bartlett had already been retired, while those from Bartlett to Quebec Junction remained in service until 1959, when passenger operations on the Mountain Division ceased.
The combined Maine Central and Boston & Maine station at Intervale, New Hampshire, stands surrounded by deep snow on 29 February 1964. Shared by the MEC Mountain Division and the B&M Conway Branch, the station was a familiar interchange point in the Mount Washington Valley. © Robert J. Girouard Collection

The train, powered by 572 and 573 with Canadian National coaches, ran from Portland through Crawford Notch to Coos Junction on Maine Central rails, continued over the Boston & Maine to Groveton, and returned to Portland via the Grand Trunk. © Tom Murray
Maine Central eastbound freight YR-1 from St. Johnsbury to Rigby, Portland passes through Intervale, New Hampshire, in the early 1980s, led by EMD GP38 no. 252, followed by GE U18B no. 400 General Henry Knox, EMD GP38 no. 255 and another GE U18B. The train rolls past the former Intervale post office, while the site of the MEC station, freight house and connection with the Boston & Maine Conway Branch lay just out of view to the left. The White Mountains rise in the background as the distinctive harvest gold locomotives work through the Mount Washington Valley on the former Mountain Division main line. © Dwight Mitchell
